Adding accounts

iCloud, Yahoo, or AOL

These services need an app password instead of your regular password. When you pick one of them in SortaMail, it shows you the steps and links to the right page in your account settings.

Fastmail, Zoho, GMX, or your own domain

Choose "IMAP / other" and enter the incoming (IMAP) and outgoing (SMTP) server details from your provider's help pages. Many providers also ask for an app password.

A work or school Microsoft 365 account

Some organizations turn off IMAP or require an administrator to approve new apps. If Microsoft blocks the sign-in, ask your IT team to allow SortaMail.

Gmail or Outlook asks you to sign in again

If access runs out or you change your password, SortaMail asks you to reauthorize the account in Settings. Sign in again and everything picks up where it left off.

Syncing and sending

Older mail is still arriving

SortaMail brings in your recent mail first so you can start right away, then loads older mail in the background. The Activity view shows how far along it is.

An email you sent hasn't gone out

If you were offline, it's waiting in the outbox and will send when you reconnect. Open Activity to see what's waiting, retry it, or discard it.

Changes in another app

Reading, archiving, and deleting go both ways. Do it in Gmail, Outlook, or another app and SortaMail catches up, usually within seconds while it's open.

Snoozes and drafts

Snoozed threads and unsent drafts are kept on the device where you made them. They don't move between your phone and your computer.

Your data

Removing an account

Open Settings, choose the account, and remove it. Its mail and saved sign-in are deleted from your device. Your mailbox at your provider is not touched.

Removing everything

Uninstall SortaMail. For Gmail, you can also remove its access in your Google Account, under connections to third-party apps.

The privacy policy explains exactly what SortaMail stores and every connection it makes.

The beta

On iPhone, you can send feedback from TestFlight: take a screenshot while using SortaMail and choose to share it with us. Or just email support@sortamail.app. Ideas are as welcome as bug reports.
